  • What is the Unemployment Insurance System?

    The Unemployment Insurance System was introduced under Federal Decree-Law No. 13 of 2022 in the UAE, providing a safety net for employees.
    This system enhances job and social stability for all categories by compensating insured individuals with a financial amount for a limited period if they become unemployed, helping them to overcome financial difficulties.
    What is the scope of application of Unemployment Insurance? The decree covers employees in both the private and federal government sectors, excluding certain categories, which are:
    1. Investors who own establishments.
    2. Domestic workers.
    3. Workers on temporary contracts.
    4. Minors under the age of 18.
    5. Retired workers who are receiving a pension.

  • What are the conditions for benefiting from Unemployment Insurance?

    The decree established a new unemployment insurance system, which supports the insured with a cash payment for a maximum period of three months if they become unemployed, under the following conditions:
    1. The insured must have been enrolled in the system for at least 12 consecutive months.
    2. The insured should not have been dismissed due to disciplinary reasons.
    3. The claim for compensation should not involve fraud or deception.
    4. Compensation payments will stop if the insured starts a new job.

  • What is the value of unemployment compensation?

    The compensation is calculated at 60% of the subscription salary and should not exceed AED 20,000 per month.
    Compensation is paid for a maximum of three months per claim, and no payments will continue beyond the third month, regardless of whether the insured has found a new job or not.
    The total coverage period cannot exceed 12 months during the entire employment period in the country.
    This means that an employee can receive a maximum of 12 months of compensation, regardless of how many times they become unemployed.
    The insured can agree on additional benefits with the service provider, which refers to insurance companies approved by the Central Bank.
